Colchester Castle Footbridge

ClearPave were asked to install 75 sqm of resin bound Terrabound to the footbridge of Colchester Castle in Essex.

Colchester Castle is the largest Norman Keep in Europe and was constructed on the foundations of the Temple of Claudius, built when Colchester was the first Roman capital of Britain. When it came to replacing the existing concrete footbridge it was important that the new surface was in keeping with this heritage site.

Resin bound Terrabound was selected in a Chocolate Buff blend to provide a hard wearing, low maintenance, seamless surface suitable for wheelchair access and the high volumes of foot traffic to this popular visitor attraction. The 75m surfacing installation had to be undertaken at the end of the day, after the castle had closed, and was completed in one night to avoid any day joints and further disruption to visitors.

Newquay Cycle Path Scheme

ClearPave were appointed by CORMAC to install over 1100sqm of BBA approved Terrabound Resin Bound porous surfacing to the new Barrowfields pedestrian and cycle path along the clifftop at Newquay in Cornwall.

The 2.5m wide pathway, which is part of the Council’s wider proposals for the Newquay Cycle Network, provides spectacular views across the bay and offers better access to Barrowfields for cyclists, walkers, and those using pushchairs, wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

The client was looking for a decorative, natural aggregate finish to the asphalt pathway that would be hard wearing, comfortable underfoot, non-slip and resistant to the elements. Terrabound resin bound surfacing in a 6mm Trent was selected, providing a low maintenance surface that is attractive and in keeping with the rural surroundings. The porosity of the product will ensure the pathway is water free and accessible all year round.

ClearPave completed the work over a 3 day period in May 2016.

National Horse Racing Museum

ClearPave completed the installation of Terrabase Rustic resin bound surfacing at the prestigious National Horse Racing Museum, Newmarket, Suffolk in Autumn 2016.

ClearPave Surfacing Ltd, main contractor for Forest Heath District Council, was invited to install 580m2 of Terrabase Rustic in a 6-10mm Rustic Gold aggregate at the Rothschild Yard and on the link footways from the car park. The client aimed to replace the existing hoggin pathways with a more robust surfacing that would suit the equine environment and provide an aesthetically pleasing finish. ClearPave suggested porous resin bound Terrabase Rustic, which could be installed using the existing hoggin as a base and would provide a hard wearing, seamless, decorative finish that could be power washed to maintain its appearance and porosity. A further area of Terrabase Rustic was installed at the entrance to the newly constructed Olympic size horse manège.

The National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art held an open day at Palace House on 19 September 2016 to launch the opening of the first phase of the Centre, including the Rothschild Yard. The transformation has been the result of over 10 years of fundraising and construction and has been possible with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, Forest Heath District Council, Suffolk County Council, the Racing Industry as well as many private trusts, foundations and individuals.

The official opening ceremony took place on 3 November 2016, attended by Her Majesty The Queen.

Wellington College, Berkshire

2015 marked the 200th anniversary of the Duke of Wellington’s great victory over Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo, a hugely significant moment in our country’s military and political history. ClearPave were contracted by one of our regular clients to install approximately 300m2 of SureSet Sterling in the award winning celebratory gardens. The surfacing work took 2 days to complete.

Domestic Driveway — Elmswell

ClearPave were employed to design and construct a domestic driveway in Elmswell, Suffolk. Decorative edging blocks were installed along with paving slabs prior to laying a porous open textured asphalt and 18mm thick Chocolate Buff resin bound surface. The driveway is SuDs approved (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) and no additional drainage was required within the driveway as the construction is entirely porous.

Domestic Driveway — Nr Braintree, Essex

ClearPave were sub-contracted by one of our regular clients to assist with a design prior to installation of over 500m2 of SureSet Sterling resin bound surfacing at a large country hall just outside Braintree, Essex.

The scheme took 3 days to complete and all the construction was porous, ensuring the customer will have no issue with standing water on the driveway and pathways.

On the same site the customer also wanted a rustic durable surface within his dog kennel area that could be laid straight on top of crushed concrete. Addagrips Terrabase Rustic was an ideal solution; a geofabric was laid on the existing surface along with a flexible grid, a 6mm—10mm Rustic Gold aggregate was then laid on the membrane, leaving a natural, rustic looking, highly durable surface.
